Kinder's Funny Face Pumpkins

It is that time of year where pumpkins are everywhere! What a better way to introduce a little color mixing (red + yellow=orange) and cutting and gluing skills in Kindergarden.

Kandisnky's Abstract Squares

4th and 5th Graders started thier unit on Abstract Art by studying the father of abstract art, Wassily Kandinsky. In addtion they had a color family review by having  to have one square primary, one secondary, one warm and one cool. They used oil pastels and water color as thier media.

International Dot Day

We started this school year celebrating creativity with a whole school activity of reading, The Dot, by Peter Reynolds. We are keeping with the theme of "making a mark and seeing where it takes you" and continuing with a unit on Abstract Art. Every grade level is studying a different famous abstract artist and learning what makes art "abstract" and abstract work "art". Sometimes hard to discipher.

Picasso comes to Hosmer E.S.

For the second year in a row the PTO has generously sponsered a traveling artist exhibit by Teacher's Discovery. This year's artist was Pablo Picasso. While the exhibit was up, students K-5th became immersed in his life and art. Students learned about Picasso's vast array of styles and periods along with his invention of cubism. Students then used their knowledge of his style to creating their own "Picasso's".

Winter Landscapes

In a study on landscape painting, creating space in our compositions and using only value in black and white, 5th graders created these beautiful snowy scenes.

Students had to put at least 4 trees in their composition using placement and size to create space. After then their could add other objects to their paintings, like snowmen, animals etc.
